Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy, also know as Aromatology, focuses on restoration of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health through the application of essential oils. Aromatherapy has been in use since ancient civilizations to promote health and wellness, in the body mind and spirit.

  • A practitioner utilizes plant constituents as essential oils, hydrosols and carrier oils through inhalation or the application on the skin to assist with a holistic wellness plan. Aromatology connects the science of plant compounds with the practice of blending to create desired results. Each client is unique and different so the process to discover which essential oils to use is personal.

  • Our sense of smell is part of the limbic system and it is a very ancient part of our brains. The limbic system is linked with the central nervous system and they work together with instinctive or automatic responses like behaviors, emotions, memory, heart rate, blood pressure, stress response and hormone balance. Recognition of smell is immediate and connects directly with the brain so the translation from the thinking brain to action is fast. Our sense of smell and memory are intricately linked in the brain. We develop our sense of smell in the womb and it is the only fully developed sense until we are 10 (then sight takes over) so smell and emotions are stored as 1 memory which is why a scent of something can trigger good/bad memories. The aroma can also modulate the stress response and allow the parasympathetic system to kick in gear and reduce the fight or flight response. Aroma blends can be inhaled, used with a carrier oil directly into the skin, blended in our bath water, infused with Epsom salts or added to a diffuser. Essential oils should never be applied directly to the skin or other bodily surface.

  • Aromatology can be used as a complementary approach to improving sleep quality, treat headaches and muscle pain, reduce stress and anxiety, increase memory and focus, fight bacteria and fungus, also used to revive and energize in a gentle holistic way.

  • First session will include a medical history and a lifestyle, diet and health history. Our approach is holistic, so it is important to discuss the physical and emotional aspects of the client’s life. We will test you on specific essential oils based on your concerns and discuss application methods to best suit the circumstances. Essential oils are concentrated so it is important to follow the aromatherapists recommendations as well as discuss any reactions (internal or external) that may happen.

  • Aromatology is the art of healing, not the practice of medicine. Aromatology is intended to be a supplement to, and not a substitute for, professional medical care and treatment. In the case of any serious medical ailment or condition, you should always consult your doctor for advice.
