  • Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that is based on the principal that the therapist can channel energy into the patient my means of touch. Developed in the 1920s, this practice is an alternative modality that allows clients to relax as the practitioner improves the flow of energy around the body and activates the natural healing processes. It is a facet of Integrative and Alternative Medicine in hospitals, practices, and clinics for as a non-invasive treatment.

  • Reiki is shown to aid relaxation, assist in the body’s natural healing processes, and develop emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. Clients have also reported it assists with coping with difficulties, relieve emotional stress, and improve overall wellbeing. People who receive Reiki describe it as “intensely relaxing.”

  • Pam Stropko is a Certified Reiki Master who studied and trained in Reiki for over 15 years. The lineage of teachers traces from Dr. Mikao Usui- the Usui Reiki Ryoho- through Dr. Chujiro Hayashi , then Hawayo Takata. She studied directly with Theresa Macak, Rowen Silverberg and Sister Anne Winters. This learned method of Reiki is a very peaceful and relaxing experience for clients.

  • Before the first session, we will go through your medical, lifestyle, and diet to see where Reiki will benefit you the most. Each Reiki session lasts about 45-50 min. We meet the client at their home and set up the table in a quiet space. The client lays on this table fully clothed or sits in a chair. Once the client is comfortable, we begin the energy healing. The practitioner lightly lays hands on specific points over the body. The placement of hands should never be intrusive or inappropriate, so it is important for clients to discuss if there are any sensitive areas to be avoided. Sometimes people feel heat or warmth from the practitioner’s hands and a deep relaxation feeling.

  • The experience effects people differently. Some feel deep relaxation, some feel pulsing energy, some feel heat and warmth some people fall asleep. Allow your body to do what it needs. It is important to be comfortable so ask for a blanket, prop for your legs or to shift your position. After the session it is important to notice what you may need- more water, rest or maybe a brisk walk. Follow your own bodies signals. More and more research is being conducted on the efficacy of Reiki and how it is being incorporate into Integrative medicine approaches to cancer, pain management and stress reduction.
