Reiki 2.12.24

Reiki is a bio-field energy form that means universal life force energy. The tradition comes from Japan and involves a trained practitioner directing the universal life force to flow through them to the participant. This practice helps a body to re-balance the flow of energy. Feeling stuck, irritable, or achy are indicators that Reiki may help. Reiki assists with bringing the body back into homeostasis and provides greater clarity and relaxation.

The energy of Reiki engages the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest) and uncouples the constant (in today’s society) sympathetic response of fight or flight. Fight or flight was helpful in our ancient past keeping us safe from predators. Today it is a system that consistently engages in every aspect of our lives and creates unhealthy physical/mental responses.

In today’s world, we are overwhelmed, anxious, worried, and stressed. Research has shown that the fight or flight response in the body results in

  • Inflammation

  • Shallow breathing

  • Impacts our body’s immune system

  • Influences our mood and hormones

  • Increase blood pressure

Reiki can assist the body’s natural healing response and give us space to breathe, soothe our nervous system, and allow our body to function at its best. It can coax the body into relaxation, all you need to do is lay there!

Research shows that Reiki can immediately reduce signs of stress from burnout by engaging the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest) which helps us manage the physical reaction to stress ( Diaz-Rodriguez et al., 2011). Reiki has also been shown to decrease pain and anxiety, even though the sample sizes are small and methods vary Reiki showed a statistical benefit to the people receiving the treatment ( Thrane & Cohen, 2014).

Reiki is a complementary approach to many issues we deal with daily and can provide a way to move our body back into balance.
